Alwyn Klein normally the senior manager of learning and performance at MTN broke away from his desk and played the part of a wise old man telling a story during breakfast on the MTN Roadshow Alwyn still looking nice and youthful… but not for much longer

Lines are deepened with shading and highlighting, liver spots and moles are also added to add some texture typical of an aged skin. This kind of ageing is easy, quick and quite effective in various (non-close-up) applications. It is difficult to break away from this type of theatrical aging because adding latex creates an unnatural shine which requires a top lighting technitian to hide. Another nice trick for aging is to make prosthetic eyebags to stick on the person, which requires prep time a few days before with the actor to create moulds of their face. The make-up artist then sculpts eyebags on the model-face, takes negative moulds of those and then creates positives in foam or using latex which are then stuck on the face. These can be pretty effective providing the shooting day isn’t too long as facial movement and sweat can cause the eyebags to deteriorate.
The roadshow was put on by Dirk Harding, Nino Herr and the rest of the Malapati Productions crew, they were working too hard behind camera’s and desks with lots of buttons – far away from where I was, so I didn’t get pics of them, but I will next time.
I Studied make-up and special effects in 1993, and still get excited when a booking comes in. I'm glad I made a few good choices in my life, doing make-up for a living was one of them. I love my job!
