I made this peice of skin life size for a full page print ad in a medical magazine, a little bit bigger than what you see here. I sculpted a rectangular stretch of skin out of clay and made a mould of it. I then stippled a few layers of liquid latex into the mould. I pre-mixed a nice flesh colour into the latex, so didn’t need to add foundation to colour the skin. The hardest part of this was to get the texture of the skin believable. I made it over several times in a short space of time before the dead line. Once the latex skin was ready, the stitches were added to my pre-sculpted pulled skin area’s by a real doctor for authenticity.
I Studied make-up and special effects in 1993, and still get excited when a booking comes in. I'm glad I made a few good choices in my life, doing make-up for a living was one of them. I love my job!
